Sheffield upgrades cashless parking with a secure payment option that’s free to use

Sheffield, England (May 2, 2017) - Parking in Sheffield will be getting a major upgrade starting in early May as the city launches PayByPhone, a mobile app that allows drivers to quickly pay for parking using their phones. PayByPhone’s secure service, will be replacing Sheffield’s previous parking app.

The service is now free to use as Sheffield eliminates the service charge that motorists had to pay previously. PayByPhone will also offer more coverage, with availability at over 8000 parking spaces within 30 car parks and on-street parking locations. Sheffield parkers can also enjoy the convenience of paying to park with the PayByPhone app in neighbouring communities such as York, Manchester and Lincoln.

“This new provider will give motorists across the city more flexibility when it comes to parking their vehicle,” says Ben Brailsford, Parking Services Manager at Sheffield City Council. “We’ve all been in the situation where we don’t have the exact change needed for a meter and the new cashless system is easy to use, doesn’t cost extra and gives drivers another option to explore. We’re also introducing the scheme to other parts of the city for the first time meaning everyone who uses their car across the city can park with ease and flexibility.”

The PayByPhone app features a countdown timer and smart reminders that trigger before a parking session expires, reducing the risk of receiving a parking ticket. It also gives you the ability to extend your parking session from anywhere.
