LONDON BOROUGH OF ENFIELD SIGNS VERRUS TO PROVIDE PAY BY PHONE PARKING SYSTEM IN BOROUGH’S CAR PARKS

The London Borough of Enfield  has selected Verrus UK to provide a pay by phone system in thirteen of the Borough’s car parks. As of December the Verrus system will be available for motorists to use as an alternative to pay & display machines already in operation in Enfield’s car parks.

Verrus the company that specialises in mobile payments currently provides services to two other major London authorities – Westminster and Barnet – alongside 18 car parking operators nationwide.

The Verrus service is quick and straightforward to use. By calling a local number, 0208 127 0999 registered users confirm their four-digit location and enter the duration of their parking.

If not registered, motorists need to provide their credit or debit card details, 3 digit CVV code from the reverse of the card and their vehicle registration number. In Enfield, all drivers can speak to a call centre operative to register their details and if they wish, transact their first parking session. Once registered, the motorist makes subsequent transactions, by either calling the Touchtone system or interacting with the service via text, entering the four-digit location, duration of parking and CVV code.

Motorists can also elect to receive two text alerts; the first confirming payment, the second reminding them their parking is about to expire, enabling them to make top up payments remotely to extend their stay.  From the motorists’ perspective  they no longer  have to carry change to feed pay and display machines nor hurry back to top up payments to extend their stay.

Says Adrian Wise, Parking Operation Manager  with the London Borough of Enfield: “Providing the community with choice is a high priority for us along with using smart technology to contain infrastructure costs in our car parks. Introducing a cashless payment system that takes advantage of the advances in mobile telephony makes economic sense considering the overwhelming majority of the UK population owns a mobile phone. One of the things that impressed us about the Verrus system is the positive reception it has consistently received from motorists at other locations. We were keen to introduce a payment system that was quick, reliable and easy to use and Verrus clearly met the specification on all three counts.”

Says Robin Bevan, CEO of Verrus UK: “We’re looking forward to working with Enfield to help create a more efficient car parking payment system across the Borough. Increasingly we’re finding that London Boroughs are turning to us for help in introducing pay by phone parking and as part of our service we closely monitor motorist behaviour at our clients’ sites. Time again our research consistently shows that when presented with the option to pay by phone or with cash, more motorists are opting to pay by phone. Not only is the system fast and convenient it’s also very secure using proven encryption technology.”
