Kettering Borough Council leads cashless parking in Northamptonshire

PayByPhone service now available

Kettering Borough Council now offers motorists a new, convenient and innovative way to pay for their parking.  Available in seven car parks within Kettering - Municipal Offices; London Road; Wadcroft; Commercial Road; Queen Street; School Lane and School Lane Pop & Shop - motorists will no longer have to make sure they have the exact change for pay and display machines.  Instead, they can choose to pay for parking using their mobile phone from the comfort of their car.

The phone payment service will be provided by the UK’s leading cashless parking provider, PayByPhone.  Now part of the PayPoint group of companies, PayByPhone has over 2.5 million registered users in the UK.  To use the service, consumers follow a simple one-off registration process, which captures their vehicle registration and payment card details.  To park they then continue to make the parking payment using their mobile phone, which takes less than a minute.

PayByPhone offers a wide range of easy to use payment methods such as phone, SMS, mobile web and apps, all of which come with the ability to receive email receipts, online parking statements and the choice to receive SMS reminders before the parking session finishes, so they can extend it without returning to their car.

"Being part of the PayPoint group of companies that already collects rent and council tax payments on our behalf, gives us great confidence that PayByPhone is the most reliable and commercially stable phone parking provider to work with,” comments Chris Stopford, Environmental and Parking Services Manager at Kettering Council. “With so many registered users already using the service, we are also confident that the service will be easy to use and popular with motorists.”

Mark Dearing, portfolio holder for Regeneration at Kettering Borough Council, said: “We are excited to be joining forces with PayPoint to provide this easy to use new service to users of our town centre car parks.”

Following the recent successful launch in South Ayrshire, Kettering Council is the latest parking operator in to offer PayByPhone parking payments.  Others include Newcastle-Upon-Tyne, York, South Lakeland, Lincoln, the City of Westminster and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Islington and Tower Hamlets.
