Cashless parking rockets into Swindon
Firework celebrations get off to an early start in Swindon this year as local council officials mark the launch of PayByPhone parking in 24 busy car parks. On 1st November, Councillor Garry Perkins, Swindon Borough Council deputy leader was joined by James Aldred, Group Commercial Manager and Dawn Woollard Head of Parking Services from Swindon Borough Council to meet with Todd Sothcott from PayByPhone and officially welcome cashless parking into Swindon.
The PayByPhone service is available now in all 24 council-owned car parks, giving motorists the option to pay for parking using their mobile phone, quickly and securely from the comfort of their car.
To use the service for the first time, drivers simply register their vehicle and payment card and then continue to make their payment via their mobile phone. Registration and payment can be made on line, by text, IVR, mobile web or PayByPhone app.
Whilst registering, consumers can also choose to receive text reminders that tell them when the parking session is about to expire, so they can extend it without returning to their car. Payments and statements can be monitored easily and securely on the PayByPhone website.
“We have been looking at cashless parking for some time and decided to work with PayByPhone because their track record and innovation show that they can meet the needs of both Swindon residents and the Borough when it comes to cashless parking,” comments James Aldred. “Swindon is renowned for embracing advances in technology so we are sure that motorists will soon switch on to the benefits and start registering for this fantastic new way to pay for parking.”
It is not only motorists who are likely to benefit. Robin Bevan, Commercial CEO from PayByPhone, believes that local businesses will also feel the positive effects of PayByPhone parking. He says: ”Being able to top up a parking session without returning to your car is a great way of keeping people in the high street and shopping for longer.”
Swindon Council is the latest in a long list of parking operators in the UK to offer PayByPhone parking payments and the first of six due to go live before Christmas. PayByPhone already works with Newcastle City Council, City of York Council, South Lakeland District Council, City of Lincoln Council, the City of Westminster and the London Boroughs of Barnet, Islington and Tower Hamlets.
